Harty interviews April Ashley, the first British person to have a sex change operation. She explains that her mother thought she was having a nose job. She describes being married for seven years. She describes being terrified of her body changing in her childhood. Ashley confirms that she is an object of curiosity in Britain and also confirms she has not had any plastic surgery on her face. She jokes that if she took her critics back home and stripped off they would find that there is "certainly nothing male" about her body! She explains that it her an hour and an half to do her makeup and that she is looking forward to the autumn of her life.
