8K sequence of fGare du Nord, officially known as Paris-Nord, is a major railway station in Paris's 10th arrondissement. The original station, designed by architect Léonce Reynaud, opened in 1846 but was soon deemed inadequate for the increasing traffic. Consequently, it was partially demolished in 1860 to make way for a larger structure. The current station, designed by architect Jacques Ignace Hittorff, was constructed between 1861 and 1865, opening for service in 1864 while still under construction. Hittorff's design features a neoclassical façade adorned with 23 statues representing cities served by the railway, including prominent international destinations like London, Berlin, and Vienna. Today, Gare du Nord stands as the busiest railway station in Europe, handling over 700,000 passengers daily. It serves as a hub for national and international travel, connecting Paris with northern France and neighboring countries such as Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
