WS POV Hit and run at night / Ferndale, California, USA

The tape shows a man crossing the street, only to be barreled down by a car. It slammed into him so hard, that one of his shoes went flying about 200 feet.,Rafael Hatter was casually crossing a street in Ferndale, Michigan when he was hit by a black Cadillac that never even slowed. Hatter was just about to clear the crosswalk when he was hit with what appeared to be deadly force, "When I first saw that video, I was shocked by that accident, and, because that man went up in the air and over the car and then skidded along the, pavement," said Lt. Norman Raymond.,Somehow, Hatter survived the hit. He suffered a broken leg and head injuries.,The accident happend around 4:30 last June 11. Officers in two different scout cars from Ferndale were parked along Eight-Mile (The road Hatter was crossing). That's when they witnessed the hit and run. Officers in one scout car rushed to help the victim while the others took off after the suspect.,Soon after Ferndale police catch up to the black Cadillac, they find 43-year-old Glenn Schaefer behind the wheel, and he asks officers what he did wrong. They tell him he hit someone. His reply, "Why are they in the road?",Schaefer was asked if he'd been drinking and he said he'd had a couple of beers. He was arrested and police say his blood-alcohol was point one-seven, more than twice the legal limit.,Hatter's family says his road to recovery will be a long one.,As for Glenn Shchaefer, he is now facing charges of operating while intoxicated, causing a serious accident, then leaving the scene.,8 Mile pedestrian run down: On June 11, 2006, @ around 4:29 am, Ferndale Officers responded to a trouble call at 561 E. 8 Mile Rd. a gas station minimart. The employee was having trouble with a 29-year-old Detroit man. Two officers in separate patrol cars made the run and had resolved the situation when one of them pulled his patrol car around and stopped facing 8 Mile, probably to type the disposition into his in-car computer. As he was sitting there, the Detroit man apparently decided to cross 8 Mile, (a 8 lane highway) to go back to Detroit and happened to do so in front of the camera in the patrol car. The black Cadillac driven by Glenn Schafer, a 42-year-old Livonia man struck the Detroit man and continued down the road. The officer with the camera on target pulled out and went after Schafer as the video depicts, while the second officer somewhere else in the gas station lot, pulled out to attend to the Detroit man. (Note: The equipment here in Fashionable Ferndale is so hi tech and cutting edge that when the officer turned on the overhead lights, the in car camera started recording, but actually goes back some 30 seconds or so which is why it actually recorded the impact with the ped adding to the coincidental aspect of catching this on video).,The video shows the balance where Schafer gets arrested and his statement. He was later charged with Operating While under the Influence causing a serious injury and Failing to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident. Schafer plead guilty on March 6, 2007 in Oakland County 6th Circuit Court, his sentence has not yet been determined.
