Format: SD
Location: London, England
Description

Introducing the series, presenter Yvonne Roberts asks the question: was there a dramatic change in the 1960's - the period of the Sexual Revolution - which has left a permanent mark on our sexual behaviour today? Library film of the 60s, and reminisces from those who were there and backed up from a specially commissioned survey, establishes that there was indeed a revolution. The programme also concludes that the revolution has continued into the 90s. The survey found that young people today start having sex earlier than their 60s parents and are even less likely to confine sex to marriage, and will have more sexual partners. Dramatised extracts from anonymous sex diaries add texture to the evidence. The diaries were completed by over 100 ordinary men and women up and down the country especially for the series. There are expert/pundit contributions from Germaine Greer, Shere Hite and series consultant Kaye Wellings. The programme concludes that today's young generation is continuing the sexual revolution not as revolutionaries but as romantics. Having sex has become part of the process of getting to know another person and usually happens early on. But the SEX NOW survey finds that women in the 90s are getting less out of sex than men. Comparing relevant figures with a study done in the 1950s suggests the sexual revolution has a long way to go to make women happier in bed
