Jon meets Gene as he prepares to tread the boards at the Bath Theatre Royal in the Neil Simon play 'Laughter On The 23rd Floor' directed by Roger Haines. Gene says that he initially had doubts about taking on the role and he called his friend Mel Brookes and asked if he was right for the part. Gene talks about his early career in the 1950s when he was accepted at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and lived in Bristol for 6 months (though he confesses he never visited nearby Bath). He also states that he never watches his acting performances back as he finds it too painful.
