Cult 60s drama series. The Prisoner is a 1967 British television series created by Patrick McGoohan, with possible contributions from George Markstein. McGoohan played the lead role as Number Six, an unnamed British intelligence agent who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village. Episode plots have elements of science fiction, allegory, and psychological drama, as well as spy fiction. It was produced by Everyman Films for distribution by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment. Number Six stands for election as the new Number Two, but discovers that even as a candidate for this position he has no freedom of speech. It's election time in the Village. A new Number Two needs to be elected and Number Six is persuaded to stand. If elected he will learn the identity of Number One. While attending a meeting of the outgoing council, Number Six annoys the current Number Two who decides that Number Six must undergo "The Test". Number Six sets out on his election campaign with many promises to his voters but his real aim is to discover who Number One is.
