Highway overpass
WS POV Police chase on highway overpass / Utah, USA

Highway Patrol trooper Richard L. Wilson III checks for structural damage to an overpass abutment after a truck slammed into it at the end of a high-speed chase Sunday that started in Davis County. The impact was so great that officials say at least four of the ramp plates on the overpass will have to be replaced. The abutment is part of the ramp connecting southbound I-15 to eastbound I-215. Officers said the impact injured a 17-year-old boy who lost control while driving the truck. He was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital with a possibly broken leg and other internal injures. He was listed in serious but stable condition Monday morning. The incident began when Davis County sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic dispute. When they arrived, the boy got in his truck and sped away, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Doug McCleve said. Officers pursued the boy, with speeds reaching 100 mph. They estimated the truck was going about 70 mph when it slammed into the abutment, McCleve said. Officers didn't identify the youth because of his age.
