Mexican actor Gael García Bernal talks about his Oscar nominated performance in the film No 2011, a political drama set in Chile, about the 1988 election and the bid to oust the military dictator General Pinochet. Bernal is hopeful, the Oscar nomination will help the film to be viewed by a wider audience, he also praises the director Pablo Larraín. Bernal says his first film was Amores Perros 2000 which followed his training in London at the Central School for Speech and Drama - Bernal says he had only previously acted in a Mexican soap opera aged 12. Y Tu Mama También 2001 a cross-country escapade starring Bernal and Diego Luna as two 17 year olds, Bernal talks about himself and Luna being friends since childhood. He goes on to further discuss the films director Alfonso Cuarón explaining how he included Bernal and Luna in the whole process including the editing, he goes on to say just how much they both learnt from him. This movie led to the two actors collaborating as Producers on several future projects. The next film discussed is The Motorcycle Diaries 2004 another road-trip movie, where Bernal plays a young Che Guevara prior to his political awakening. Bernal reflects on this film as being the greatest experience of his life, an incredible journey where he felt the whole world was his home. Here he talks about politics being very important and prominent in South American movies. Bad Education 2004 directed by Pedro Almodóvar is next. Bernal describes filming with the great director as 'radically different, interesting and obscure'. The Science of Sleep 2006 clip is shown. Babel 2006 and Letter to Juliet 2010 are two Hollywood films that Bernal now touches on. Casa De Padre 2006 Bernal discusses the many differences between Hollywood films and those made in South America, he feels that his native films are more cultural, diverse and authentic. He considers the Foreign Film category at the Oscars to be the section with the most talent saying that the stories are 'honest and expressive'. Bernal closes as he talks about two up and coming potential projects, one of which is 'Zorro'.
