French Actor Romain Duris discusses his film The New Girlfriend 2014 a witty, clever and mysterious film which sees Duris transforming into a woman. He talks about always wanting to play a woman, the director of the film François Ozon had read this in an interview with him so created a film for him to live out his dream. Duris says it wasn't intended as a serious drama but aimed to reflect the joy of being a woman. Gadjo Dilo (The Crazy Stranger) 1997 clip is shown. Chinese Puzzle 2013 where he starred alongside British actress Kelly Reilly is now mentioned. Le Divorce 2003 follows next, Duris talks about filming the romantic comedy in Paris with a Hollywood cast, Naomi Watts, Kate Hudson and Glenn Close. Directed by James Ivory, this was one of only a few English speaking films for Duris , another one being Afterwards 2008 starring John Malkovich whom Duris remembers as being amazing. Duris talks about his love of acting in English language films, he finds the dialogue more direct and rhythmical. The Beat That My Heart Skipped 2005 directed by Jacques Audiard, a French film that feels very American, Duris says that working on the film with Audiard was 'intense, energetic, a great experience'. He then talks about his acting hero when growing up being Cary Grant whom he describes as 'very cool and a gentleman'. In Heartbreaker 2010 Duris got to play a Cary Grant type character opposite Vanessa Paradis. The director Pascal Chaumeil encouraged them to improvise and be spontaneous. Duris goes on to discuss what it's like working with very famous actors and his reaction is to always 'be real and in the moment with them'. He then talks of getting to act alongside French legend Jean- Paul Belmondo in the film Peut-être (Maybe) 1999, he learnt from him how to be spontaneous and listen to the director, he loved the way Belmondo did his job. A clip of the period drama Molière is shown here. Populaire 2012 a movie set in the 1950's follows next, which Duris describes as a very cool and stylish production. The last film discussed is Mood Indigo 2013 a surreal film starring Audrey Tautou and directed by Michel Gonry. Doris talks about the crazy moving sets and trying to bring emotion and a sense of reality amongst the chaos.
