Doll and Em 2013 HBO TV series written and starring both Emily Mortimer and Dolly Wells. Mortimer discusses her role where she plays an improvised version of herself, an actress who hires her best friend (Doll) as her Personal Assistant, its about their friendship journey in Hollywood. There's an element of a noir-ish, paranoid world that suited the backdrop of Hollywood. Mortimer discusses the development of the characters, getting the balance right between monstrous and lovable characteristics, complex whole characters so the audience stays engaged. Mortimer discusses her love of screwball comedies and how her famous writer father John Mortimer influences her. She's a huge fan of Catherine Hepburn films. Bright Young Things 2003 a film directed by Stephen Fry, she loved and admired Fry's direction and says the film was popular but people will always struggle to feel sympathy for rich people. The Pink Panther 2006 starring Steve Martin, Mortimer loved working on this very physical, screwball comedy, she has no regrets making this film. Match Point 2005 directed by Woody Allen Mortimer discusses how over whelmed and lucky she felt working with Allen, she was worried she would mess up and ruin the film but Allen reassured her that he has plenty of experience and that she would be happy with the end result. Mortimer describes Allen's filming process where actors aren't allowed to rehearse and only allowed one take. She said it forces you to really listen and react with your fellow actor in the scene. Shutter Island 2010 directed Martin Scorsese, a period horror film set in the 1950's, Scorsese references his favourite B movies throughout the film. Mortimer recounts having to do scenes with a pile of make-believe dead children and go insane not long after giving birth to her second child. Hugo 2011 is the next film and again directed by Martin Scorsese, a clip is shown. A magical film created by the director that was shot in 3D. Harry Brown 2009 also starring Michael Caine and set in the mean streets of The Elephant and Castle in South East London. This gritty film where Mortimer plays a policewoman hunting down gang members and a vengeful Caine. Mortimer recounts her experience working with Caine who she describes as kind, present and loving, he made her laugh all the time on set which was such medicine as her dad had recently died and she was grieving while shooting the film. Newsroom 2012 a HBO TV series set in an American cable news channel where Mortimer plays an Executive Producer "Mac". She had an amazing time shooting and time to grow the character but as it was a long running TV series, she didn't have time to shoot anything meaningful in between. But since has enjoyed getting into little movies in strange places and in particular shooting a short film entitled 'Rio I Love You' with the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino who she is completely obsessed by.
