Description

British actor Ewan McGregor discusses how he chooses his film roles, he relies on gut instinct and is driven by stories that haven't been told before. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen 2011 McGregor talks about the movie and the journey his character goes on, a lovely film with a slow unravelling love story, he enjoyed filming with his co-star Emily Blunt. Trainspotting 1996 was the follow up film McGregor shot with director Danny Boyle, their debut film was titled Shallow Grave 1994. He talks about the impact these movies had, a 'new kind of film' that represented the cool Brit Pop movement of the time. From here followed A Life Less Ordinary 1997, they went to Hollywood, where Boyle and McGregor attempted to crack the American romanic comedy market, he had a great time filming with his co-star Cameron Diaz. I Love You Phillip Morris 2009 is based on a true story. The script looked more like a biopic on paper but once on set McGregor said it turned into much more of a comedy. Ghost Writer 2010, directed by Roman Polanski, who McGregor discusses in detail. He talks about how amazing Polanski is, a director who gives actors time to find their character, he's very pedantic on set but a true gentleman off set. Big Fish 2003 a magical, fairytale story that didn't go on to find an audience. McGregor doesn't worry when this happens, he found that a lot of people really loved the film, it touched them, people would come up to him on the street and express their love for the movie. Beginners 2011 another emotional film about a father and sons relationship through his fathers terminal illness. He praises his co-star Christopher Plummer and describes his performance as 'beautiful and seamless'. Moulin Rouge a musical film directed by Baz Luhrmann, the process involved a lot of rehearsing, as well as singing and dancing lessons, by the time they began to film, they all had a huge sense of the world that Luhrmann was creating. Luhrmann was still figuring out the ending in the edit, 'thats just the way he works.' McGregor describes his theatre background and training, he believes there are no rules when it comes to acting, but he's very happy that he had the theatre training that he had. Star Wars Revenge of the Sith 2005, this was financially very good for him as well as something he is very proud to be a part of, he also gets lots of children interested including his own kids. McGregor talks about his four daughters and how he likes to keep his career as normal as possible for them. However, he does enjoy taking his eldest to his film Premiers, the magic of those evenings still excite him and he's very happy to share it with her.
