Director Peter Berg discusses his film Lone Survivor 2013 which was adapted from the book by Marcus Luttrell. It's about soldiers on a mission to capture a notorious Taliban Leader. Berg discusses the incredibly long and brilliantly choreographed firefight sequence. Berg states he likes to push the politics aside. Choosing to focus on the 'brotherhood' aspects, looking to break the mould of a typical war film. The film Very Bad Things 1998 was Berg's directorial debut, a black comedy about a Bachelor party that takes a sinister turn. Berg admits the reaction to film was very divisive and that he's particularly interested in the psychology of violence. Berg discusses how he got into filmmaking - working on film sets doing anything he could. He started acting and was cast in the TV Series Chicago Hope 1995-1999 where he observed the directors on set and decided to become one himself. Berg went on to create and co-write Friday Night Lights 2006-2011, a TV series about American family life in Texas centred around American Football. Berg discusses the film Hancock 2008 starring Will Smith, a big Hollywood blockbuster in which Smith plays a reckless superhero. Next discussed is Collateral 2004 starring Tom Cruise where Berg co-directed with Michael Mann, saying he learnt a great deal from Mann who he describes as very meticulous. However Berg describes himself as a quick director, handheld and reckless. The Kingdom 2007 an action packed film starring Jamie Foxx. Battleship 2012 a massive Hollywood blockbuster with an gigantic budget, featuring extensive special effects - here Berg discusses the films success internationally but explains that it didn't do as well in America as it was eclipsed by The Avengers which came out at the same time. Berg says although he is proud of aspects of the film, he's not in a hurry to make anther film so heavily reliant on special effects.
