Description

American movie director Catherine Hardwicke discusses her film Miss you Already 2015 starring Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore about two best friends going through tough and challenging life experiences such as cancer and IVF. Hardwicke wanted to shine a light on a part of real life that isn't often depicted and make it as human as possible, addressing both the highs and the lows. Working with Collette and Barrymore was wonderful as they were both so creative, talented and funny - and were both able to improvise while shooting the brilliantly written script by Morwenna Banks. Thirteen 2003 Hardwicke directed the film and collaborated on the screenplay with the thirteen year old star of the film Nikki Reed, Hardwicke also credits the performances of Holly Hunter and Evan Rachel Wood. Lords of Dogtown 2005 a film about skateboarding in LA comes next. Here Hardwicke details the challenges of filming the action sequences in empty swimming pools. Twilight 2008 Hardwicke discusses wanting to shoot a vampire movie that was really about falling in love for the first time and conveying that first crazy, obsessive kind of love. She also wanted to make it in a forest around the trees and the moss, creating a more earthy, natural, misty atmosphere. Hardwicke talks about the casting of the characters Edward and Bella and how talented and perfect Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart were. Red Riding Hood 2011 another fairytale film about wolves and myths, Harwicke was interested in why fairytales have endured to this day and play into our fears on subjects like disguise and deceit. Working on this project with Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried was also an awesome experience.
