Extract from the Russell Harty Show - Interview with Malcolm McDowell
id: ITV-01-0955
format: SD
location: London, England
Malcolm McDowell talks about the impact of Clockwork Orange and its impact on violence. He says he has no personal responsibility for violence but acknowledges he has influence on people as a member of the media. He says he does he work as honestly as he can and to the best he can. Harty says he found Clockwork Orange violent and pessimistic. McDowell disagrees with him and says the author, Anthony Burgess, wrote the book about the freedom of man to choose and made the anti-hero an evil force. He concludes by saying the violence in the film was done in a stylised way.
